The Palgrave Test

The Palgrave test indicates here that I am quite creative: I'm supposed to have lots of ideas, to like change and new challenges, and to be curious, versatile and imaginative. However, I do not appear to have a huge need for achievement or autonomy, I am not that determined and I am a moderated risk-taker.
I think this profile is quite accurate, I am indeed very curious and imaginative, and I like change. I also don't consider work achievement to be that important, and independance is not a necessity for me: I can work either in a team or alone. For risk-taking, too, I prefer to know where I'm going before taking a decision, but when I feel sure, I can go anyway, follow my instinct. Finally, even though I think that one can create its own opportunities, I think that some things just happen and you can't do anything about it. All you can do is choose how to live with those events, how to make them serve you and take the best of them.
My classmates think that I am indeed creative, but they think I am also determined, persistant and autonome, that I like to do things my way. I like change and I am quite self-confident, and determined.

Talents

I would take with me people with different personalities than mine, in order to have a complementary team.
Therefore, I would first choose someone able to do lists and a concrete plans, and above all able to follow it. Someone that would be realistic and that would flatten my imagination to possible, realistics things.
I would need someone really down to earth who would force me to do things on time and to follow the plans.
I think I would also need someone with maths skills for accounting, business plan, etc.

On the contrary, I think I would find it difficult to work with someone too versatile, because that would oblige me to be down to earth, and I would not be confident in such a position. However, even though I would need someone to take me back to reality, if they are too realistic and don't let me follow and develop a bit my ideas, I would feel frustrated and would risk to be inefficient.

Website

I found the website http://www.entrepreneur.com/. I think taht this website is very useful if you want to become an entrepreneur because it gives adeas, tools and it offers services such as legal advices, strategic advices, and other advices concerning marketing, human resources or accounting and finance. Furthermore, with this website, you can contact other entrepreneurs and learn from their experiences and hard times. You can also meet other people, find vendors for example.
Another useful website, in my opinion, is wikipedia. Indeed, when you do a research on Google, the wikipedia page is often the first or second one to appear, if it exists. Therefore, I think that having its own page on wikipedia is a good way for a business to be known and easily identified.

Pictures

I chose this picture because for me, an entrepreneur is first someone that has an idea. That's why the figure here raises its arms and is in white, as if it was glowing, because it have had an idea. Then, for me, an entrepreneur can't be alone. He maybe the first one to get the idea, the one that knows how and why it will work, but he is not alone in the creation and the running of the company. He has to be followed by a team, people that believe into him.

This is a personnal picture that can reprensent entrepreneurship for me. Indeed, in my opinion, its important to be optimistic and forward-looking to be an entrepreneur: you have to see the glasse half-full rather than half-empty. Of course, it's important to be realistic and to know where you are going, but being optimistic is one of the keys for me.

New trend

My business is to sell home-designed jewels on the internet. Therefore, the trend of luxury is interesting for my business. Indeed, nowadays, the market of luxury tends to diversify, as the definition of luxury is not as clear now as it could be earlier. The main factor to determine luxury would be, in fact, scarcity. With home-designed, unique jewels, my business enter in that trend. Any women will be able to get the jewel of her dreams, and will furthermore be quite sure no one else will have the same, except if she gives her agreement. And if someone else want her jewel, she would get money on it.

Next practice

To explain what is "next practice", why not listen to one of the few that have studied it? Here what says CK Prahalad, Professor of Business Administration at the University of Michigan: "There is a lot of research focused on best practice, but I focus on next practice. Next practice by definition has three problems: firstly it is future-oriented; secondly, no single institution or company is an exemplar of everything that you think will happen; and third, next practice is about amplifying weak signals, connecting the dots. Next practice is disciplined imagination." (Prahalad, C.K., 2004. Interview posted on The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid: on this website)

Therefore, next practice is often associated to the "Blue-ocean strategy", a new kind of business strategy that focuses more on differentiation than on pure competition.

From those two approaches, I think that my business fits in that new environment. Indeed, no jewelry does make home-design, on-the-demand jewels. Therefore, my company will be set on a new market, a new segment rather than go competing in the main field. Furthermore, this business will capture the demand of women that have precise ideas of what they want and never find it anywhere, because they will be able to design themselves their jewels. That way, the satisfaction of the clients will be 100%, and they are then more likely to be be faithful to the business. And to conclude, the comapny also has a whole part for non-consumers: it is possible to design jewels without buying them, just to see if other people would be interested. Therefore, the women that will show designs on the website and whom jewels are liked by other customers will gain money thanks to the business.

Competencies

technical skills
multimedia skills - 4: As my business is only on the internet, this skills are absolutely vitals.
purchasing - 3: Their will be a need of stocks of raw materials to make the jewels, and someone dedicated to this purchases and this management would be needed too.
product management - 4: In order to make the jewels exactly as they were designed and to send them to the right persons.

behavioral skills
customer orientation - 4: The business is a website dedicated to home-designed, unique, on-the-demand jewels. Therefore, the customer is in the center of the business model, and the team as to be aware of that.
flexibility - 3: It's a new, internet-based business, therefore it will begin with a reduced team, and they'd better be able to adapt.
